NGCOA Canada Reports Increased Rounds & Revenue For Facilities Across The Country

Year-to-date, rounds nationally show an increase of almost 14% over 2020 while average facility revenues are up more than 25%...

The National Golf Course Owners Association Canada’s monthly Research Reports, presented by Club Car, show that the increased popularity for golf seen in the 2020 season is continuing through 2021.

The year-to-date number of rounds nationally show a strong increase of 13.8% over 2020, with both Quebec (+31.6%) and the Atlantic region (+18.6%) significantly ahead of the record-setting 2020 levels of play.

BC and Alberta are both near the national average (BC at 12.7% and AB at 15.9%).

In their release sent out via email October 3rd, the NGCOA Canada noted that improved weather this year and the reduction in Food & Beverage revenues in 2020 due to COVID had an impact,

"Year-to-date revenues are showing an increase of 25% over 2020, which is almost double the growth we are seeing in rounds. The likely contributors are increased F&B sales over last year where so many dining options were limited and improved average rates due to the maximization of tee sheets... NGCOA Canada's Weather Impact Report shows that weather has also contributed to the continued success for golf. Tracked regionally, the collective year-to-date weather impact reported by all golf course operators was a 7.0 index on a 0-10 scale where '5' is normal."

The release also points out the huge increase in rounds played when compared to 2019,

"When comparing pre-pandemic rounds played to today, rounds have grown by 27% over 2019, which is considered tremendous growth in an industry that was best described as slightly declining or flat prior to the start of the COVID pandemic."

These data are compiled from the NGCOA Canada Research panel which is comprised of 679 golf courses that accurately represent all segments of the Canadian golf industry.
