PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS

Jeff Maggert holed out from 123 yards for eagle on the third playoff hole to win the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and hand Scott McCarron the season points title and the Schwab Cup. Two holes earlier, Retief Goosen missed a 4-foot birdie putt that would have given him the tournament and the Charles Schwab Cup. McCarron, who has led the Charles Schwab Cup since April but did not contend in any of the three postseason events, tied for 27th in the final event at Phoenix Country Club. …Stephen Ames saved the best for last, posting four rounds under 70 for his best showing in the three Charles Schwab Cup playoff events

LPGA TOUR

Ai Suzuki shot a bogey-free final round 67 to win the Japan Classic by three strokes for her first LPGA career victory.  With the win, Suzuki – a regular on the JLPGA – becomes eligible for LPGA Tour membership. There were no Canadians entered in the event, the final of the LPGA Tour’s Asia Swing.

EUROPEAN TOUR

Englishman Tyrrell Hatton beat Austria’s Matthias Schwab on the fourth playoff hole under the lights in a dramatic six-man playoff to win the Turkish Airlines Open. Schwab had the chance to clinch the title on the 18th with a birdie but finished with a par to set up the six-man playoff — only the third in European Tour history. It marked the first time at a professional golf tournament that the floodlights were switched on at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal golf course to accommodate the playoff. There were no Canadians entered in the event.

Puma Dominguez shot a final round 67 but needed a par on the second playoff hole to defeat Tom Whitney and win the Argentina Classic. …Jared du Toit posted his best finish of the season and best result on the tour since April 2018. …Blair Hamilton has made the cut in each of his last three events, playing a combined 32-under par
