Ten standout Canadian junior golfers earned the right to represent the CJGA and Canada at the second annual Stephen Ames Cup in late July in Moka, Trinidad. PGA Tour Professional Stephen Ames and the Stephen Ames Foundation with the assistance of Nike Golf Canada sponsored the three-day Ryder Cup style event between CJGA Team Canada and Team Trinidad & Tobago at St. Andrews Golf Club.
The strong Trinidad side proved to be a formidable foe to the Canadians, defeating the team by a final score of 15 – 5. Ames was on hand throughout the tournament and week- long stay in Trinidad as the host of the event. He worked with all of the junior golfers on the practice green and driving range at one time or another and cheered on all competitors during their matches.
The Stephen Ames Cup will return to Canada in 2007. Junior golfers may attempt to qualify for the tournament through the national Nike Golf Junior Series schedule.
