The CJGA Enters Its 17th Season
There is plenty of buzz around the Canadian Junior Golf Association these days highlighted by the announcement of PGA Tour Professional Stephen Ames as National Spokesperson.

Ames first became affiliated with the CJGA six years ago when he appeared at their annual Junior Golf Fundraising event.

Already a huge supporter of junior golf in his native Trinidad & Tobago, Ames wanted to explore ways that he could also support junior golf at home in Canada.

In 2005, Ames worked with the CJGA to create the Stephen Ames Cup, an annual Ryder Cup style tournament that brings together junior golfers from Trinidad & Tobago and Canada. The teams travel to each other’s country as they alternate playing host to the tournament.

“Supporting junior golf is very important to me as I have seen how it can help young people develop the skills and confidence that they will use for the rest of their lives,” said Ames. “The CJGA has done some great work with Canadian junior golfers over the past 16 years and I am proud to be able to assist them in their work by serving as the organization’s national spokesperson.”

In addition to the financial support of the Stephen Ames Foundation in hosting the annual Stephen Ames Cup, RBC announced their support earlier this month as presenting sponsor of the international tournament.

“Stephen has done wonders for junior golf in Canada and Trinidad & Tobago, and we very much appreciate him adding the role of CJGA National Spokesperson to his list of contributions,” said Earl Fritz, Executive Director/Founder of the CJGA.

“Stephen has shown his love for the game in the most admirable way by supporting our youth and their development in golf. He represents everything that the CJGA hopes to share with Canada’s young people through golf and we’re thrilled to have him join the CJGA team.”

While the CJGA does offer the opprotunity for international competition, it also offers juniors of all skill levels a myraid of opportunities.

Players between the ages of 5-19 have the opportunity to participate in events across the country, and all that is needed is a passion for the game.

As a CJGA member, juniors are privy to lots of great benefits, including international opportunities, ranking on Junior Golf Scoreboard, subscription to Golfweek Junior online, great prizes & giveaways at tournaments and much more.

For the advanced golfer, there is the opportunity to take their game to the next level.

The CJGA will be offering unmatched international opportunities in 2009, three of which will be held on Canadian soil.

The Stephen Ames Cup, a Ryder Cup format event between Trinidad & Tobago and Canada will take place in Calgary with PGA Tour professional and CJGA National Spokesperson Stephen Ames on hand the entire week.

The North America Cup will be held at Weston G&CC in Toronto, Ont. early July, and the season ending Canadian International Junior Challenge in September at OslerBrook G&CC in Collingwood, Ont.

The Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, CA, Euro Junior Golf Cup in St. Andrews, Scotland, and US Kids Golf World Championship are a just a few more international opportunities.
