Well, 2009 finally came to a close.
And while I don’t regret its passing, the year did give me some memories that will never fail to bring a smile to my face when they weasel their way back into my consciousness – like my top 10 picks for best golf holes on Maui…

Sedona Golf Resort In Arizona Offers Some Classic Desert Vistas And Great Golf As Well
by Gayle Moss (www.golfgal.ca )
October is one of those months where I have two choices. I can sit around and mope about the upcoming rain that will blanket our city for 4 months, or start planning for some golf getaways that will make me forget the rain, the cold and the 15 hours of darkness that permeates Vancouver from November to February.

September 12, 2009. That is a day I will always remember because it was the first time I took a course off my bucket list, only to put it right back on.
That is the day when golf wasn’t just a game for me – it was an
experience - and it was the best experience on a golf course I have ever
had.

Rodd Mill River's First Hole Is A Dogleg Left Par 4 - All Photos Courtesy Gayle Moss
by Gayle Moss (www.golfgal.com)
On Monday IG's gallavanting GolfGal began to enlighten us as to the pleasures of golf experiences to be had on the beautiful island of PEI off Canada's Atlantic coast.
We now present part two of Gayle's Excellent Adventure. Could this be her 'Big Break'?
The first hole at Rodd Mill River is a nice par 4 dogleg that slopes to
the left and plays a bit shorter than the yardage would indicate.
So
far we haven’t seen it used as a challenge hole on the Big Break, but I
expect at the end we’ll see it in a stroke play game between the two
final contestants.

Just 10 days before opening course superintendent Darren Burns organized for the use of a helicopter to move 1.2 million pounds of bunker sand to its final destination As most people in the golf world (or at least western Canada) know by
now, Bear Mountain Golf Resort opened its second 18 holes for play on
May 30.
What is not known was that after more than 2 years of
construction and with only 10 days left to opening, 9 of the holes
still did not have any sand in the bunkers.

Amendments to the Decisions on the Rules of Golf may see EMD
(Electronic Measuring Devices) second only to WMD (Weapons of Mass
Destruction) as the most popular three-letter acronym this decade.
The United States Golf Association and the Royal and Ancient, golf’s
governing bodies, revised the Decisions on the Rules of Golf effective
January 1, 2006. Although, many of the changes were relatively minor,
one had great significance; Decision 14-3/0.5.
Decision 14-3/0.5 allows a golf committee the right to permit the use
of distance-measuring devices, by local rule. Moreover, other changes
clarified that it is now legal for competitors to share distance
information between each other.
So what do these changes mean to the game of golf? Most importantly, I
expect a significant change in pace of play. Using an EMD, a golfer
will now have exact distance instantly which will reduce uncertainty
and the amount of time one need to prepare their next shot. However, I
digress.
